America's Cup

I’ve spent a fair bit of time in Newport, Thursday night racing in the J24 fleet. It will be different in the AC45, but Newport offers a great race course with lots of underwater obstacles. It is also shifty and puffy, with plenty of current, a lot like Plymouth.

AC World Series Newport

"It would have been hard to plan a more appropriate welcome for the ship carrying all of the America’s Cup World Series cargo. Hundreds and hundreds of sailboats were participating in various events around Southern Narragansett Bay.  A dozen former America’s Cup 12 Metre yachts sailing around the Newport bridge, over 100 entries in the New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta, Sail Newport adults out taking sailing lessons, kids of all ages and from all parts of southern New England participating in Optimist clinics. The sailing community is fully engaged and fully excited for the World Series and all of the fabulous events surrounding it."
